Durham County School of Excellence 2011-12

This year's Regional School of Excellence competition took place on 14th January 2012 at Hartlepool IBC. In total there were 26 entires in the two age categories, Under 18 and Under 15.

The event comprises 8 skills exercises which are marked; and a round robin also marked. The highest scorers go forward to a knockout of semi-final and then final. There were many qualified coaches from within the County under the supervision of County Coach, George Fleming, to help with running the competition and the marking of the various stages.

Durham County IBA President Eric Weightman was also present there to keep his eye on things and to offer encouragement to the participants.

The following are the top finishers who are all likely to be invited to take part in a Regional School of Excellence at York & District IBC on 1st April 2012 to compete against bowlers from Yorkshire and also Cumbria.

The County Association is again grateful to Hartlepool IBC for hosting this event and making its excellent facilities available to the competitors and officials.

Regional School of Excellence 2010

In January 2010 a Durham County School of Excellence was held at Hartlepool IBC for Juniors under 18. After completing all the exercises and the Knockout Competition the Under 15 Section was won by Noah Cummings , Ferryhill IBC,w with Matthew Davison, Hartlepool IBC, runner-up.

In the Under 18 Section the winner was Alex Portway, Hartlepol IBC, with Joshua Jolly, Ferryhill IBC, runner-up.

The Co-operation of the County Coach, George Fleming, and his team of coaches was greatly appreciated. In all 28 young bowlers male and female partricpated.

On 28th March the Regional School of Excellence was held at Darlington IBC. The Under 15 winner was Lydia Cuttmore, Yorkshire and runner-up Noah Cummings, Ferryhill IBC . In the Under 18 section the winner was Keith Burton, Darlington IBC and runner-up Sam Arundel, Yorkshire.

A total of 8 Durham players qualified to take part in each group of the Regional School at Darlington.

A National School of Excellence will be held at Rugby in September and all the Regional winners willl be invited to attend.
