This is a national championship competition which is open to all affiliated Indoor County Associations. Each County is represented by a single entry of six 'fours' selected from playing members of affiliated clubs within the area of the County. All ties are played on either a Saturday or Sunday on dates fixed by the Competition Sub-Committee.
Ties are played simultaneously unless otherwise agreed. Matches are played three rinks at home and three rinks away unless both sides agree to play the whole tie at a mutually convenient other venue which would avoid the costly expense of lengthy travel, accommodation and time of work. The starting time is 10.00am but by mutual agreement shall not be later than 3.00pm. Ties are 21 ends with no time limit. Counties arrange the appoinment of an official EUBA umpire at each venue in all ties prior to the Semi-Finals.
Dress for Liberty Trophy matches is whites or registered coloured shirts. County Bowls discs colours are to be used unless those supplied by the sponsor are available. Where there is a clash of colours the second named county in the draw will change. The winning County Association holds the "Liberty Trophy" for one year and a memento is awarded to each player and up to four reserve players, the County President and County Secertary of each side contesting the Final.
The Liberty Trophy has been in existence since 1974/5 and Durham have been finalists on 10 occasions the most recent being 2003/4 when they were successful in winning the Competition for the ninth time. Further details of the Competition are available on the Liberty Cup - Matches page where the 2007/8 fixtures, team details and results will be shown when available. The names of all the players who have represented County Durham in the Competition are listed on the Liberty Cup - Players page.
A list of all the winning County Associations and the runners-up are given in the following table.
